The Wolf by Henri Matisse
Using the white of the paper as another color, Matisse creates a dramatic silhouette of the face in profile, capturing the anger and aggression of the Wolf with blood red eyes and jaws aghast. The image is divided vertically at center using opposing colors of red and blue. Yet another demonstration of Matisse' endless exploration of color reinforcing and extending form.
