The Two Children (Interlude) by Francoise Gilot
Created in 1962 "The Two Children" shows a sensitive and very personal rendering of Gilot's daughters Paloma and Aurelia (the only lithograph which she produced that included both of her daughters) with a unique diagonal perspective using large swaths of color. Gilot was commissioned to produce six lithographs for Associated American Artists from 1962-1968 of which five included her daughters as subject matter. As a devoted and loving mother to her three children (Claude Picasso, Paloma Picasso and Aurelia Simon) the focus on her young daughters was a natural subject matter for her lithography at the time and met with instant success among American and European collectors.
