The Sword Swallower by Henri Matisse
One of the most well known in the JAZZ series of images, the Sword Swallower is yet another permutation on Matisse' meditation on the circus and theatrical performance. An ingenious contrast of simple black serrated lines against the white background of the head and neck captures the exact moment of the contorted and seemingly impossible circus act.
