The Swimmer in the Tank by Henri Matisse
In this complex image, Matisse uses the contrast between the white diagonal form of the swimmer to a stark black background divided centrally by a vertical of column of green. The reintroduction of black as a major color (actively discouraged in Parisian art schools) was a notable innovation of Matisse in his "cut outs."
