Poem by Nell Blaine
As an early member of the New York school of artists and poets, Blaine was a natural choice to contribute to the O'Hara portfolio. Given her incredible physical challenges including impaired vision as a child and polio as an adult it is a miracle that she could be an artist at all. Overcoming these challenges, however, informed her work in unique ways. In this impressive print we see her mastery of the lithographic pen to create a narration all of its own. This image was a lithographic equivalent of her oil on canvas titled Rooftops 1created in the same year.
