On the Stone 9 by Francoise Gilot

Color lithograph 9 shows 3 human figures (two black colored figures touching hand to hand) and a single small animal figure (perhaps a dog) interposed between two large triangles. This may be an additional representation of an animal acrobatic act at the circus. Akin to the images of Henri Matisse in JAZZ, the important popular entertainment of the circus was a major subject matter for early 20th century fine artists, especially in France.
