George Sand at Venice by Francoise Gilot
Born in 1921, Francoise Gilot was a precocious artist with the perfect combination of an extremely keen intellect and a passion for art including a natural affinity and talent for printmaking, especially color lithography.
With a keen interest in poetry, plays and novels from childhood, Gilot frequently used subject matter from literature in her printmaking.
In 1980 while teaching art at the San Diego State University, she created this inventive lithograph for a special academic symposium on the famous 19th century french writer George Sand. This work was one of only an edition of 50 that was signed by Francoise and is an excellent investment and historical art work.
