The Weaver Uprising by Kathe Kollwitz
A true friend of the working class, Kollwitz derived inspiration from the lives of ordinary men and women. A precocious artist, she did multiple drawings of day to day life and events affecting everyday people and translated these to fine art prints as she matured as an artist, the best of which is seen in this classic portfolio.
In the mid 1890's Kollwitz took an interest in the oppression of the Selesian Weavers and their failed revolt of 1844. This dramatic image portrays the revolt with angry protestors at the gates of the powerful cloth magnates residence.
