Work and Joy by Henri Matisse
Fernand Mourlot first met Henri Matisse in 1937 after printing a reproduction of his canvas Le Reve (the Dream) for the Exhibition of Masters of Independent Art at the Petit Palias. They developed a close relationship following this collaboration and created many significant lithographic posters that showcase Matisse' unique cut out aesthetic toward the end of his career that is loved and collected to this day.
Mourlot's own color lithograph production of The Complete Posters of Braque, Chagall, Dufy, Leger, Matisse, Miro and Picasso titled "Art in Posters" in 1959, is arguably the most important documentation of the Golden Age of mid-20th century fine art color lithography anywhere in Europe.
