Robert Motherwell was the youngest of what will be known as the "First Generation" of Abstract Expressionists. He quickly emerged as an innovative printmaker and frequently turned to literature, especially poetry for inspiration. As both an artist and an academic, Motherwell frequently asserted a cerebral element of interpretation and understanding into his work, especially his lithography. Creating some of the most important printed works in modern art, including rare and valuable deluxe books connected with some of the great writers and thinkers of the 20th century, Motherwell paved the way toward a new way of thinking about art and its expression on paper.
His lithographs are some of the most sought after works in modern lithography and deservedly so as his innovations, especially on paper, continues to resonate with viewers and collectors to this day.
DKH Gallery is proud to exhibit Motherwell's iconic graphic works.
