The Wheel by Francoise Gilot
Born in 1921, Francoise Gilot was a precocious artist with the perfect combination of an extremely keen intellect and a passion for art including a natural affinity and talent for printmaking, especially color lithography.
Learning the techniques of printmaking as a teenager in France, Gilot evolved into a specialist lithographer with an extensive production of innovative original prints, especially in the 1960's and 1970's.
The Wheel was the conclusion of this prolific period of printmaking creating an innovative circular extension of the human body in dramatic blue colors on three zinc plates that is unparalleled. This now very rare work was printed for a special exhibition for Columbia University in a limited edition of only 100 and is an excellent investment work.
